Located in the beautiful and high-prestige green area of District XII in the Buda Hills, Britannica International School is known in the local expat community as the ultimate multicultural British-style primary and secondary school offering education to the highest standard in a warm family atmosphere.
Britannica was established in 1994 and since then it has grown steadily – now it caters for 330 students representing 46 nationalites from all over the world.
The educational programme is based on the National Curriculum for England suitably enhanced to reflect the school’s truly international nature. According to the British system the school accepts children to its Primary Department from the age of 5. Following the six years of primary education students are well prepared to enter the Secondary Department from the age of 11. From Year 7 to Year 13 (ages 11-18) Britannica students receive a solid academic background to be able to pass the IGCSE and AS/A2 examinations.
In 2008 the school became part of the Orbital Education Group that runs British-style international schools in China, Spain, Russia and Hungary. The company ensures quality and accountability for a long-term successful school.
Britannica is proud to be a member of the Council of International Schools, a premiere organisation in international education for the accreditation of schools. The purpose of CIS is to enable member organisations to achieve and deliver the highest standards in international education.
The school is a registered Cambridge International Examinations Centre, the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 11-19 year olds. Students take IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations at the end of Year 11 and Cambridge International AS and A2 (A Level) Examinations in their final two years.
Throughout the sixth form (Years 12 and 13), students are supported and advised on their applications to universities by a fully qualified Career’s Adviser. Worldwide, thousands of students achieve university places each year using Cambridge qualifications – the United States is a top study destination for Cambridge learners including all Ivy League and Ivy Plus universities.
There is a strong sense of teamwork among staff and our highly qualified international teachers who treat students as individuals and provide each child with the most suitable differentiated education to cater for each child’s personal needs. A child-centred approach is emphasised through the whole school. There is quality pastoral care as well as a nurturing and positive learning environment, but it is the excellent school community that makes the school so special and welcoming.
A wide range of extracurricular activities bring lots of colour to school life. After-school clubs include swimming, football, volleyball, basketball, chess, cricket, rugby, floorball, judo, aikido, ballet, instrumental lessons, choir, tennis, pottery, folk dance, railway modelling club, etc. – all the after-school activities are held on the premises.
A variety of events are organised and held at the school, including annually the International Day, Winter Concert, Graduation Ball at the British Embassy, Spring Fayre, World Maths Day, International Schools’ Poetry Competition, the World Scholar’s Cup, World Literature Day; the Primary Department musical productions make the non-academic school life memories unforgettable. Britannica’s mission is not to be a “diploma factory” but to prepare students to become productive global citizens who are ready to face the challenges of the 21st century modern world.
